Inventor Overhaul (Dicey Dungeons mod)
A downloadable mod
This mod doesn't *technically* have any new Inventor episodes, but it changes the existing ones to have the following new scrapping rule: after each fight, all equipment that was least used in that fight is automatically recycled Reunion-style, while also still giving you a gadget! (Scrap items work as you'd expect and take priority.)
Careful about fleeing: your equipment still gets remixed. Then again, since there's still no safety checks on the equipment you can get, you might need it. (If you actually need to run, quit to menu still works lol)
But don't get too comfortable: starting in Floor 2, each time you change floors, ALL items in your equipment AND backpack will be recycled all at once! Worry not, though: your loadout was not lost forever...

For a character that i thought should really vibe with me, I found vanilla Inventor to be really stressful: Instead of feeling like I could/should get creative throughout a run, I felt stuck playing it safe because I was so scared of losing what I needed, and the rare moments my equipment actually comboed or even worked together at all I was forced to give up my fun immediately.
Reunion Inventor was much better, and definitely inspired this mod, but I wanted to put my own spin on it, drawing on some of my own game designs.
I have some more ideas for this, and it's a little janky, but I'm just happy I can call this "done-ish" so I can see if it's actually fun. So far, I think it is! Not *as* chill as I'd hoped, but i think it's the fun kind of thinky rather than "ughhh all my fun stuff is gone and i have nothing to work with" thinky.

Install instructions
Dicey Dungeons' install folder has a "mods" subfolder: unzip this there.
To play it, you'll find the mods menu by pressing Esc on the title screen.

I had the same feelings with Inventor when playing, this is really cool, thanks for making it! The boss fight blueprints are also so cool lol
Would it be possible to make a version where what happens is after a battle you get back the same gear you had at the start with full uses, with the gadget being whatever it was during the fight (ie whatever you used up in a fight last), building off Rust rules. And then the floor recycling and blueprint stuff still works the same?
That way the player has a lot more control and strategy compared to this version which is more random, and with more resources to work with than base inventor. I think it'd be a lot of fun
Sorry for the late reply! I'm having trouble following what you mean though. Basically, snapshot your gear at the start of the fight, turn on vanilla Inevitability of Rust rules, then restore the gear at the end of the fight but keep any new gadget?
You could totally do that -- and i invite anyone to mess with my scripts, though forgive my bad code (also check the dicey discord for modding help).
But I think at that point you're moving closer to Warrior than Inventor? The big draw of Inventor to me is continually changing how you play, and I don't know if between-floors is often enough. (Plus you could get screwed over by the "randomizer".)
I WOULD like to see a twist on Rust that's unencumbered by long-term planning, but I think you'd have trouble tweaking it to make sure you're always making interesting decisions.
